Welcome to Peace Lutheran School. Our kindergarten class is held every morning from 8:05 a.m. until 12:00 noon, Monday through Friday.
Jesus Christ is the heart of our kindergarten program. The children know that Jesus is their Savior and the only way to heaven. They learn to live and work together as children of God. All subjects are taught in the light of God's Word.
We begin the morning with a devotion and Bible story, followed by a correlating Bible story activity. Our Bible stories cover lessons from both the Old and New Testaments. The children also memorize Bible passages and hymns. Several tmes during the school year the children have the privilege of singing in the church service.
We have a very strong phonics program which teaches the children the sound of each alphabet letter. As we progress through the year we continue to review previous sounds as we introduce each new sound. We blend sounds to decipher new words and finally to read short stories. Writing and listening skills are also an important component of the phonics program.
Our Saxon math program utilizes manipulatives and activity sheets to cover a spectrum of topics ranging from recognizing and writing numbers, graphs, patterns, days of the week, months of the year, money recognition, measurement, time, etc. in addition to addition and subtraction.
Other activities that fill up our morning include music and gym classes, enrichment activities in the areas of science and social studies, recess, snack and story time. You can see that we have a very full morning.
